23,000,000 shades of RED
Today we want to recover an old proposal for a contest in which we participated 10 years ago as it seems to us that its theme is now even more valid than at that time.
We are responsible for the destruction of our rivers and our cities, it is time to accept this responsibility and invert the tide, we propose to create 23,000,000 fillets lining the shores (one for each inhabitant of the city) linked by a ribbon path, each fillet will be owned and maintained by a person. These fillets will be grouped by families, neighborhoods, trades, etc. creating a micro polis within the city
The fillets will line the entire 14km of the river; changing sides and invading both land and water thus re-creating the shoreline (lost by the expansion of the city). The buildings will be built along the path as required thus minimizing travel time within the city and allowing the habitants to use the path and the river for moving to and from their workplace.
These fillets transform into buildings for all the required uses, commercial, residential, cultural, services and leisure, scattered and repeating along the ribbon taking into account the existing uses near the shores so as to maximize the usage thus increasing the independence of the neighborhoods and minimizing the impact on the traffic. The ribbon path will pass through all the different sectors and uses to further open the river and the new city to its owners / inhabitants, it also creates a promenade that can be used by all ending in the people’s tower, a viewing platform to the new Shanghai center in Pudong and a new symbol at the crossover of the two rivers.
